Desiree Simmons has given a verbal commitment to Long Island University, according to Ring City basketball’s Maria Harper. Simmons, a 5-foot-7 guard from Newark, N. J., also considered Manhattan, Wagner, Marshall and Fairleigh Dickinson. Simmons’ twin sister, Ka-Deidre, recently committed to Seton Hall. The sisters begin their senior season at Shabazz High School next month.
Ka-Deidre Simmons has given a verbal commitment to Seton Hall, Maria Harper of Ring City confirmed Monday. Simmons, No. 53 in the class of 2010, told ESPN HoopGurlz in July that she was considering Xavier, St. John’s, Providence, Rutgers, Massachusetts and DePaul.
The 5-foot-8 guard from Newark, N.J., played for the Walter Welsh-coached Ring City basketball program in the summer and is a senior at Shabazz High School.

Shakurah Washington has given a verbal commitment to DePaul, according to Ring City Basketball’s Maria Harper. Washington, a 5-foot-11 forward for New York City power Murray Bergtraum, also considered Louisiana Tech, Providence, St.John’s and Marshall.
